About the festival
Aadi Perukku, held on the 18th day of the Tamil month of Aadi, honours rivers and water at the time of year when monsoon flows raise river levels.1,2,3
Devotees, especially women and newly married couples, gather on the banks of the Kaveri (Cauvery) and other rivers to offer prayers to the river.2
